Hello DMB,

This is basically saying that when BitLocker does it's initial system check before encrypting, it is not able to detect or see the USB flash drive at boot to be able to use to unlock the OS drive. Because of this, BitLocker will not encrypt the OS drive until you can get the USB flash drive to be recognized at boot.

Do you have your BIOS settings set to allow USB drives, legacy USB devices, etc... to be recognized at boot?

Hope this helps,
Shawn

just try what I've said. power off/on instead of rebooting when it asks for it . I've done this on a dozen laptops at work. had the same problem with the sticks they provided me.

Give what Adishor posted a try first to see if you may get lucky.

You'll have to boot into your BIOS settings at look for that option to enable/turn on. When you restart the laptop, you should see what F key (function key) to press to enter BIOS or Settings. You'll have to keep tapping that F key (ex: F1) until you enter BIOS. From there you'll just need to look through each option, menu, and setting until you see them.

I wish I could be more specific on how for you, but each computer/laptop is a bit different and not always the same for this. If you could post back with what brand and model laptop it is, I'll be happy to see if I can find more specific details for it on how to.

Unfortunately the manual is very lacking on BIOS setting for your model.

It's most likely not going to have that exact phrase. Be sure to look in every menu/tab at each option and setting for anything related to "legacy usb", "legacy USB support", "USB at boot", etc... under a "Advanced" type menu/tab.

Hopefully some with a Sony or this model laptop will be able to post with the exact wording used by that brand/model.

In addition, try having it connected in another USB port.
