    John,

Could you post a screenshot of your Disk Management window to show you drive layout? Perhaps something may show why the target drive cannot be found.

    John,

I must admit that I do not see a reason here for why you cannot turn on BitLocker for the C: drive. What is interesting is that it will not let you shrink the drive as well. What message does it tell you for why it can't? I'm guessing that this may be the cause.

thanks again for the guidance. I know just enough too often to get in trouble.
Im gonna assume doing my monthly CCleaning did something good cause shortly after loading bitlocker to get a more detailed description to answer you It took off and what do ya know downloaded and locked my C:drive.
    regards, doug

quick question, can the USB key be used for other files too? or does it have to be exclusively for the bitlocker files?

    Hello Martin,

Yes, you can still save other files on the USB key in addition to the bitlocker recovery key file. :)

Didn't MS change BitBlocker with an update recently to make BitBlocker work without TPM? Does anyone know if they made the changes listed here or did they do something different? I configured BitBlocker on a PC 4 days ago without TPM and it worked without making any of the above changes. ???
