No what I did Shawn was to wipe the drive because I didn't want to have to have the Windows old stuff on it and essentially a new drive but at the very beginning instead of typing in JOHN-PC I typed in my password and went to the next screen and found what I had done wrong.

It was a very long day mate as I thought I had cooked the really decent CPU (Intel Q9650) I have in that machine and it wasn't until Jack go me on track late in the day that I found the cores were still in one piece and I was getting very tired and cranky with myself for taking my eye off the ball during that install. But anyway if there is no other way I shall do it all over again as I am as you may have gathered OCD and prone to charging in at the gallop it shouldn't take long to do as now the machine is running as fast as it did before but thanks for the help.
Oh two pics of what I have.

Well it might be the morning air mate I just wondered if I could just change the User Account and name - well it did so no problems

John,

I'm glad to hear that you got it all sorted out. I know how you feel, doing installations when you're wiped make for some interesting installations.

So, I changed the name of my PC late last night. It was my mother's old one, and I wanted to make it more personalized to me. But, last night, I also realized that I cannot run my programs as administrator anymore. When I right-click, and select "Run as administrator", it runs the program, but runs it regularly as if I never pressed run as administrator. I'm wondering if maybe this problem is related to me changing my computer name. If you could help me out in any way, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, Ian

Hello Ian, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Changing the computer name alone wouldn't cause that.

If you like, you might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened may be able to quickly fix it for you.
