hddvd,

You will need to also have the original backgroundDefault.jpg image from step 6 and the background1024768.jpg type images from step 10 saved in the same "C:\Windows\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds" folder at step 13.

You're missing the backgroundDefault.jpg file in the folder.

The image you want as your login background the name of that image should be called " backgroundDefault.jpg" meaning the image should be .jpg file . Inside the Backgrounds folder inside INFO folder inside C:\Windows\System32

Please take a look at the attached picture. I have both of those files in there. The actual resolution for both of those files is actually 1366x768 (my laptops native resolution). The images are both visually different so i can tell which one gets applied. When they are both in that folder only the backgroundDefault.jpg gets applied. Isnt the background1360768.jpg supposed to get applied? Or am I not fully understanding this? The reason i want this is because we have different laptop screen resolutions and i just want to drop all the different resolution images in the folder and have windows automatically set the best fit one.

so what is the point of having anything named:

  • background7681280.jpg
  • background9601280.jpg
  • background9001440.jpg
  • background1024768.jpg
  • background10241280.jpg
  • background1280768.jpg
  • background1280960.jpg
  • background12801024.jpg
  • background1360768.jpg
  • background1440900.jpg
  • background16001200.jpg
  • background19201200.jpg
?

Is backgroundDefault the only one that will ever get applied?

Those are the sizes that will work as a logon background image

No other file name is needed for the logon image to work . Just the backgroundDefault file

yes, naming the file backgroundDefault has always worked. I just thought there was a way i could have a bunch of different resolution images in the folder and as long as they were named anything from that list windows would apply the one closest to the computers screen resolution. Guess i was wrong.
