It could only be called BackgroundDefault . It doesn't change the images automatically like you can with wallpapers if you have them checked and set a time as how many seconds do they change .

    :Added:

Just found a tool for you called Logon Screen Rotator

    Program created by Luke Payne

    Shawn,
    I used OPTION THREE
To Manually Change the Log On Screen in Windows 7
I did the yeoman work on my computer and it worked fine. I then remotely copied the jpg file to the other computer that I take care of. I put it in C:\windows\system32\ oobe\ info\backgrounds\. It worked with CTRL/ALT/DEL but not with the logon screen. The was a folder named DEFAULT in the info folder that wasn't on my computer. The backgrounds folder had several other colored file that were obviously alternate files. Do you have any ideas about what I may have done wrong?

    Hello Bill,

Not sure, but I would recommend to use OPTION ONE or OPTION TWO to change the log on screen instead to make it easier and practically mistake proof. :)

    Brink,

I don't know if this is something that you consider as being "worthwhile" or whatever to add to the initial post, but for Method 3 you can also get the logon screen to automatically change to be the same as your current desktop image even when it changes. Here's how:

All steps from method 3 apply except for the creating of a backgroundDefault.jpg and the subsequent various resolution files. Instead (after doing everything else), open command prompt, and type the following commands:

    cd C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds

    mklink backgroundDefault.jpg C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\TranscodedWallpaper.jpg

    Replacing <username> accordingly, of course.

And of course, you have to make sure that any desktop background image you set is under the size limit.

Speaking of the size limit... I know you said 256kb, but for some reason I can't get it to take any file unless I'm under 250kb. Any thoughts?

    Hello FuryoftheStars,

Thank you. That may be a good option for some. The only issue could be the image size limit since most desktop background images may be over the 256/250 KB size.

Yeah, I noted that in my post. It really is a shame that MS put in that 250ish kb limit.

    Hello Alduins,

    Hope this helps. :)

Known Problem : On some computers, the following error message may appear :
"Unable to write to folder c:\windows\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds\".

Solution : Open the "c:\windows\system32\oobe\info\" folder in Windows Explorer, then rename the "backgrounds" folder as "backgrounds2".
