Hi Shawn
Thanks for that but it still didn't work, I am not sure why it doesn't want to play. I have 2 background files now to see if the size makes a difference. a 1440x900 and a 1600x1200.
Not sure which size I should use as my screen resolution is 1680x1050. That is why I had the 1600x1200.
It now has me annoyed so I will continue with different sizes until I can get something to work.
If anyone else has changed Log-on screen in 7077 x32 let me know exactly what you did...and where you put the files as there seems to be a couple of differences in actual location in the thread.
Cheers
Andy

Andy,

The only location to have these files at is in the C:\Windows\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds folder.

You might also try removing the other specific .jpg file as a test to see if it will work with just the backgroundDefault.jpg file. It will be stretched to fit though.

Hi Shawn
Just tried that and it still didn't work...I then re-sized down to 1024x768 (same size as background.bmp in oobe folder and it still doesn't work.
It might be something to do with my system as I installed 7077 by upgrade from 7068, which was an upgrade from 7057...lol.
Maybe I should try again on the next install...should't be long now....and run a clean install next time.

Thanks for your help on this....

I'm not certain why it would not be working for you either, it may be from all the upgrades causing a problem somewhere.

Please let us now how it goes from the clean install though.

I had this tweek working like a charm on 7068x86 Had not tried it on 7077x86 clean install yet until I saw this thread tonight. I have tried but no dice, cannot get it to work for me on 7077. Might just be me. Has anyone reported that it works on 7077? lm

If you look back in the thread the Windows 7 install screen was a simply screen capture saved and renamed. Besides the snipping tool the free Faststone screen capture tool will save captures in small jpg files that you simply copy into the designated background you create.

I was hoping to see the option for changing logon screens in the 7077 where you simply pick out any image and set that as the default. The reg mod there and the manual creation of the "Windows\system32\oobe\info\background" sub folders went the same on the 7077 as any previous build going back to the 7000.

With the Russian to English translation of the so called 7106 build on the way a look to see if it works there will be another items besides verifying things on it. As for the Faststone capture tool you can grab that at FastStone Screen Capture - The Best Screen Capture Software

It's a lightweight capture tool that sits quietly in the system tray once you delete the desktop shortcut the installer puts on. Simply check off the start with windows and minimize to tray options and have a nice day with it.

I'm still trying to get it to change for me. I did have to create the info and the backgrounds folders so must have did something wrong somewhere. Thanks for the link to the screen capture tool.

This is interesting. The jpg file showed up in my start menu but not on my logon screen. Spose maybe half way there.

Hello Myzr7,

I can confirm that it still works just fine on the 7077 build. This option to change the log on screen was available since the 7057 build.

Yes I think it must be a bug in my old test machine. I went to the reg key to see if backgrounds was enabled and it was so must be something about my install or whatever. I will keep trying and post results. thanks lm
