Windows Mail

Question as I'm relatively new to the world of x64 systems. There is a Windows Mail folder in both Program Files and Program Files (x86) - which one do I take ownership of and fiddle with?

I'm now using Windows 7 RTM (7600).

Forgive me if this has already been answered, I couldn't find it.

I came straight from XP SP3 (Outlook Express) to Windows 7, hence NO previous Windows Mail (Vista), is it still possible to install Windows Mail in Windows 7 x64?

Hello Ben,

Yes. You can copy the needed files from a friends Vista installation to use in your Windows 7.

Posting these files is not allowed here since it violates Microsoft's distribution policy and against the forum rules.

Thanks Brink, I have that folder already

, but when I run the WinMail.exe, it kept telling me the folder didn't exist? If I hit "OK" I got error message and if I hit "cancel" I also got error message!

Update:
Got it to work now

, I forgot to remove the original "Windows Mail" folder in Programs Files

It worked for me. But is there any way to make windows mail the default email client?

There is a couple of tutorials that deal with this problem,have a look. I use window live desktop client so I do not know if this works. Good luck to you. Hope that you enjoy your stay here on SF.

mmm. the first link shows how to make the windows mail show up in the default list? the second one tells how to select it from that list? thats my take on what you want to do. Sorry it did not work for you.
