mmm. the first link shows how to make the windows mail show up in the default list? the second one tells how to select it from that list? thats my take on what you want to do. Sorry it did not work for you.
As it turned out, the first tutorial was extremely effective in resolving my problem. Thanks again for the heads up and your help.

I'm considering upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista Home Premium.

When I ran the Windows Vista Upgrade Adviser the only incompatibility it identified was Windows Mail.

Will this fix for Windows Mail work with whatever the upgrade is for Home Premium?

If so, I'm 100% sold on Windows 7 based on reviews and Beta-user experiences. Otherwise I'd have to change my mail program (inconvenient, but still worth the effort).

    Thanks

I use Win Live Mail desktop, I did the easy transfer program and It transfered all my mail from my isp account that I had folders of in the 7 rc install that I had going. Not sure if it could help you but you might try to save your mail with Windows Easy Transfer to a external drive. Then do the tutorial to restore Windows Mail. Then do the transfer. Good luck to you and welcome to SF

    Windows mail move failure

I've merged the reg hack in order to take ownership of the WM folder, but, when trying to delete the folder, I receive an error message stating that I require permissions from myself(current user w/admin privileges), in order to make changes to this folder.
Conversely, if I open the WM folder, highlight everything, right click and choose take ownership, the process runs and appears to complete successfully, however when I highlight again and choose 'delete', I receive another error stating that 'I require permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to this file(every file in the folder).
I've tried to find a way around this , but, so far, I've had no luck. And essentially the same error on multiple machines.
Not sure what to do here.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated..

    Thanks in advance.

The easy way around that is to rename the whole folder and then just add the new folder from Vista and leave the other one as a backup.

Thanks, Mr. Grim. Rename worked perfectly where the other solutions wouldn't. Making it the default was another matter, but, finally got through that as well.

    Thanks again.

    Freezing

    Hiya,

I also had to rename the Windows Mail folder to something else, then I pasted the "Vista" Windows Mail. However, trying to open Windows Mail makes Windows 7 freeze and just generally slows down completely.

    Any ideas?

Hello Siljel, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might consider using Windows Live Mail instead since Windows Mail support is fading and will not be supported at all in Windows 7 by Microsoft.

If you decide to, then these can help with importing your Windows Mail messages and contacts.

    Hope this helps,

Can I get Windows Mail into Win 7 that was not upgraded? A clean install by Acer?
I assume this will not work for me?
Also the gadget bar is nice.
