WinMail with Win10 I can't stop tinkering around with the problem! It seems to be
so close to give up yet, but then I haven't spent much time on it so far.
Maybe after a few weeks I'll give up.
Realize though that many of us have spent hours and hours trying to fix it to no avail, including myself, you can see various posts about it from day one.

The only thing you can do is to put a bad spam offender into the Blocked Senders List, and Rule them out, etc..
Your WinMail client won't update that spam filter via MS anymore either and it's list is very old. I even tried to adapt it from my Vista install when it updated itself, and transfer that new filter over to my 7 install, but was never successful and finally let it go; but again I never get any spam here so it's not a big deal for me. If you have your own domain server you can create a thousand of your own email addresses anyway and so can stay ahead of it that way too.

Very interesting is that I've noticed that there is someone who has developed an installer for ''Outlook Express'' for Windows 7, 8, 10. ..Just to be clear, it is Outlook Express, Not our WinMail
It seems the person on the project is actively supporting it.
I wonder why they did not use WinMail instead of Outlook Express ?
I don't know anything else about it, I have not installed or tried it, I like the WinMail I have, but I do think the idea they are doing this is neat for so many reasons.
I wonder if MS is going to go after them?

Hmm, wonder how secure that is? It looks like it but is probably based on another email client I feel. Would have to take a look in detail and don't have the time right now, but thanks for posting.
I will install it on a test bench setup when I get a chance within the next week, and I WILL see what they are using and doing.
I really hope it's the real thing... well I mean at least the original MS OE files but adapted in whatever way, and maybe this person has the abilities... I just don't know yet, but I will find out.
I'm still going to use WinMail though :)
I'm giving it a shot. The last update from MS (Windows 8.1) blew WinMail right out of the water. I went through the reinstating procedure and it still wouldn't run. Then I ran the Merge program and the logo came up, gave me an error that it couldn't find the Store folder. It went to that be default, but when I hit ok it still gave an error. I ran W.L.M. to at least get my mail, ran the import feature, and it found the Store folder and imported all the messages just fine. I don't want to run W.L.M., but I haven't had any responses on WM not accessing the Store folder, so thought I'd give this new OE a try. The link posted error 75, but the company has a temp fix for that, so I ran that and OE runs ok. I like it! BUT! It's a nightmare trying to import addresses and messages. That part is really limited. I'm no expert by any means, but I've tried umpteen ways to import. Found the only way it would successfully import addresses was via and old WBA file I had. So far no luck on messages at all, but I'll keep whacking away at it. I really like WM a lot, but the more updates we have, the less features run on it. Ditto when Win 10 comes out. Of course right now it doesn't run at all.
I appreciate the heads-up on OE, though. I'll see how I make out after more finangling. Spell check doesn't like that word.

I didn't see your other post in the EightForums till just now, sorry, I don't monitor that one so much.
I haven't gone to Windows Update for my Windows 8 setup for a while yet, so I can't tell you what happened yet, but I'm Sure, As Always, it's easy to put back together by simply running the entire specific to Windows 8, WinMail procedure again. No one else mentioned they had a problem, and I believe? that's what Ex_Brit uses these days and I assume his is still working fine?
I haven't booted to Windows 8 in a few weeks and mostly do my work on Windows 7
When I get a chance I will update Windows 8 and see what changes were made and what to do, and reply over there, but it won't be for a week I am booked. I've not checked out this Outlook Express any further yet either I'm just too busy, and it's not high on the list yet - but it is on it, and I am curious.
I am not advising anyone to install that Outlook Express to play ESPECIALLY without a 100% partition image backup, then if one does install wanting to check it out, there's no worries since it's so easy to image back.
Anyway, I can't believe you installed that different install over your WinMail installation, and then when it didn't work you then installed WLM on top of that, or lord, as usual you're always a maverick :)
I hope you had a partition backup, otherwise there's no sane way I can troubleshoot that triple install.

Please understand that my post about the Outlook Express above was just an interesting fyi that I had noticed, in other words I am Not suggesting to install it, and definitely not to discuss it at any length in this WinMail tutorial thread, and I will not post about it anymore except in passing. A new thread can be started in the appropriate group if someone wants to, but it won't be me.
I almost deleted that post today, and actually I apologize to Bill that I posted about it in this thread since it may be off the WinMail topic a bit, but I was just excited that something was being done in that client area, and I wanted to offer a hey guys ''look what I saw going on similar to WinMail''
Anyway since I stuck my foot in mouth already, here's a brief note...that out of sheer curiosity I needed to install and test that Outlook Express version sooner than later.
~Naturally I did it on a test bench setup and with all the safety and protection that affords.
~Be forewarned, it does break WinMail from functioning, they moved files to disable it since, as I found out, that you cannot run both at the same time and is why they did it.
~Yes it's actually the same original files from Outlook Express back in 2004; but a number of things were modified in order to make it work on later OS's. I give them full credit for their effort and ability!
~I did not see anything rogue or anything unscrupulous anywhere in the install and using multi-layer virus & malware monitoring during the testing, everything appeared benign; but as always never say never.
~Yes the GUI looks just the same as it did back in 2004, it is Outlook Express from then, except under the hood somewhat modified but nothing you can GUI see, except they have the installer patching the protected storage service in order for the email account passwords able to be saved. (We didn't have that problem in WinMail)
~It Does come with an uninstaller, but, be forewarned again, it does Not put WinMail back together to work, as well it fails to remove Most All the files it placed AND all the registry changes it installs!
...fwiw, and imho, I personally much prefer the 2009 version of WinMail !
Now sweat endeavor - no worries about posts in the WinMail tut. If that OE alternative is viable, why not let people who want it try it.
As long as they understand that the support for it isn't here.
I like your idea of a separate thread to discuss any issues members might have if they do try it. That will keep the focus on WinMail here and the OE alternative in that thread.
weMail is a bit schizophrenic (still Live mail in some place), but otherwise a fine client, y'all are just stubborn
and that's ok!
Anyone can create a thread for alt OE if they choose. I don't know if the software is tainted, if the website is tainted, or if it's more trouble than it's worth.
There's no need to apologize to me, endeavor. You own this tut probably more than I do since you're always here supporting other members - thanks for that!

Hey Endeavor! I guess the right title is not Sir as much as what you said- Maverick.Windows Live Mail was already installed on this tin can, so I just switched over to that for a while. It does look like OE is going to be supported quite well. I renamed the WinMail folders so they're still intact. I may mess around with that again later. Have a great day!
