Nice, I see you have it working.

I know you have been around for a while and so you are very handy with software.
Yes it's true to disable splash screen is
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail
"NoSplash"=dword:00000001
..and toggling the 1 back to 0 turns it back on.
I am a true WinMail advocate and so of course I WANT to see the splash screen when it starts, especially on Win8 and Win10 - it pleases me to see it! ymmv ..but after-all it's because we've put a lot of work into the project.

The Win7 tutorial was done this way with automation because we've found that it circumvents numerous problems/mistakes that people were making when doing it the manual way from the previous version(s), and so the new automation makes it easier and more foolproof; having said that though, yes you still can do it the manual way if you have the familiarity, but in all cases use the latest WinMailEdit.reg contained within the Win7 tutorial for Win7 - it has the latest advancements.

Over on our sister EightForums for WinMail we do it manually for the Win8/10 WinMail process, but of course it's a bit different in a number of ways; for instance you don't want to use the WinMailEdit.reg there for Win7 here since it will break your SFC usability, etc... and so one would want to keep those files separate; otherwise though the actual program files are the same, except of course on Win7 we only replace the msoe...dll's, but for Win8/10 the whole folder gets replaced (for a good reason) ..but I digress here sorry..

i did not installed win.mail on my 2nd win7 machine yet...

after installing in the last steps:
"Control Panel ==> Default Programs ==> "Set program access and computer defaults"
Expand Custom, under the heading "Choose a default e-mail program
Click the Radio button for Windows Mail
Click the OK button."
Windows Mail crushes and WinMail.exe disappear ...

If you did everything right, in the old Screenshot I gave in post #1171 you can see on #3 that normally when you start WinMail for the first time, you are prompted with that gui and it asks to set WinMail as the default client - did you see that?

Did you use any other processes besides the page 1 tutorial to install WinMail?

Both .exe from prog. folder and shortcut disappeared .
i could not find them in recycle bin either.

Interesting, okay then that I recall for Windows 7, that's the first I've heard of WinMail.exe programs file getting deleted by something from the OS. Did you say it deleted itself when you tried to set it as the Default Email Client manually?

Yes you should of opened WM first, and it's written on #7 to do so.
I see what happened now.

fwiw, when WM is first opened in Win7 (8/10) it automatically sets a thousand important registry entries.
If you try and set WM 'Manually' via the Control Panel as a default client even before you first time open WM which automatically sets itself proper in so many ways, then I am not surprised that happened then. You tried to make a program default that was not setup yet, and so it was still foreign.

..but it's not the last step, you should of done #7 first which is to Restart your system and launch Windows Mail, and here is where you will see the automatic prompt given, as shown in my screenshot to make WinMail the default client. If you do it right the first time you won't have to do that alternate step to do it manually at all.
So you jumped ahead, and did something that was an 'only if' it was not default already.
fwiw, at any time afterwards you also can check that by going to WinMail's top header and click Tools> Options> General ..and at the bottom click the button that says 'Make Default Client' ...if it's already grayed out then it's already set (or it can be other issues.. like having other email clients installed)

You didn't see it only because you did not open WinMail first, and if you did you would of saw it and this would all be a non-issue. You tried to Manually set WinMail as the Default Email Client untimely when WinMail was ready yet.
You said you did a fresh install with WinMail as the first time, and so as my screenshot shows the order of what happens and when, and if you did it in order you would of seen it.

And so you did it a little backwards, no problem, but above importantly you said now you reinstalled it again and it works fine - and so that's good - congratulations.

Honestly, all these posts makes it sound complicated but it's not, and it really only takes 60 seconds to re-instate WinMail once you are use to it and have the sequence down, it's just a few clicks here and there then your are done, and ready to set up.
