So my question is what would the stored name be for a full name, say Mut & Jeff? Does Windows 7/Vista only store the first 4 positions, and so in this case the username would be Mut? Or is it a different variation?
The full name can be completely different from the stored name.

You can run net user on its own to view a list of all local users on the machine (displaying their 'stored' names).

Thanks, good tip, I'll check it out when I go back to their house.

I will kindly suggest that you go back to the beginning of this topic and read all the messages. Your question is answered, and you will likely learn more than just what you are asking.

Here is a hint: You already have more than one user.

    Hello,

You should still be able to do the steps in the tutorial if you boot to WinRE.

Your EASY options were available before you forgot the password. Those are things like writing it somewhere, or creating a Password Reset Disk, or creating a second user.

For some people the EASY solution to this is to find someone that understands these instructions and offer some kind of payment.
