    Selecting/Forcing Backup Type

    hi all,

i know that both the system image backup and the file backup create full backups the first time and incremental backups later. but i still do have some questions:

    1) is there a way to select or force the type of backup. ie. for a monthly full backup ?
    2) how can i see, what files have been backed up ?

    thanks

    Hello BRJ,

Q1) At step 13 in the tutorial, you can set it for how often to create the backup for on schedule.

Q2) It will always be the same files that you selected in step 8 or 9 being backed up unless you make changes to it in step 4.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    hi shwan,

it looks like if my questions were not precice enough.

    1) i would like to make sure that i get a full backup every month and incrementals every week.

    2) the backup will process changed files from the set i specified in step 8 or 9. i would like to see what files it actually backed up.

    thanks

Q1) The schedule only as the option to run weekly or monthly, but not both unless you manually change it or manually run the system image backup manually every month and leave just the file backups on the schedule.

Q2) I suppose that you could use this if you wanted to see the files themselves in the backup.

You might also investigate the features of a 3rd party backup program to see if it may have the options to do what you are wanting as well. The built-in backup features in Windows 7 are good and will get the job done, but they are just basic backup features.

    hi brink,

    1) if i use a weekly backup, will it always do incremental backups or will it do a full backup from time to time ?

    2) afaik i only can see the current state of the vhd.

Q1) Only if you have the system image option checked in step 9, but then it will create the incremental system image backup everytime the schedule runs as well.

Q2) If you attach the VHD, you could see the files themselves.

    BRJ,

Sorry, but no. All you can do is compare the different dated backups with each different date as separate part of the incremental backup from the location in the NOTE box at the top of the tutorial. You can see as an example that I have two image backups created incrementally below.

    Hello Pat,

Only if you open Task Scheduler (taskschd.msc), and check the "wake computer......" option below for the WindowsBackup tasks.
