It should be set to 1 if you want to use AHCI
Oop's my mistake, sorry, you're correct about being set to 0
What option is selected in BIOS?
Options should be IDE, AHCI, or RAID.
If it is RAID, you're good, it has the same functional benefits as AHCI and you don't have to have any drives in RAID.
Check in Device Manager and see what your 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' driver is.
Start button, right click 'Computer', click 'Manage', then click 'Device Manager', click on the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers', should be something similar to 'Intel 5 Series/3400 Series SATA AHCI Controller' or a RAID controller.
I'm trying to change my Windows Vista (installed as the boot disc originally on a RAID config) to AHCI, but even after I change the two entries in the Registry Editor to '0' for both, Vista fails to load when I change the config to AHCI for SATA. Any suggestions?
Hello Ichirou, and welcome to Seven Forums.
For questions related to Vista, you would be better to post them at out sister site Vista Forums instead.
I got it to work by choosing RAID, then new drivers got installed all of a sudden. :)
The only way I can get windows 7 to boot now is to physically select drive at start up via boot menu f8 and select the drive which is on ahci-2(when ahci is enabled it is on all sata ports on motherboard) and i have 6 sata ports, 4 which can be used normally and to use the other 2 ahci has to be enabled and i have 4 hard drives and 2 dvd drives that are sata so I have to have all ports enabled. If ahci isnt enabled, then windows 7 boots up fine.
I am asking if there is a way that I can get windows 7 to boot to the correct drive without having to physically select it everytime-I have tried easybcd and that didnt work.
