If you switch to AHCI, then you you'll need to disconnect your IDE CDROM, and just use the SATA ones instead to avoid conflict issues. Especially since your IDE is dead anyways.
The Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) is a technical standard defined by Intel that specifies the operation of Serial ATA (SATA) host bus adapters in a non-implementation-specific manner. AHCI is used for SATA, so there would be no issues there. :)
