Hello Mrkqn, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Did you do steps 17 to 24 in a command prompt at boot? You will not be able to replace the imageres.dll file from within Windows 7. You can create a System Repair Disc if needed to boot with to be able to a command prompt at boot.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Yeah, it's critical that it's done at boot, and to do all those steps to know what drive letter to use. It will not work if you do not do it at boot as outlined in the steps.

    Mrkqn,

You may have made a mistake somewhere along the way. Go through the tutorial again double checking to make sure that each step is done and done exactly as written. Miss one little thing, and it's easy for it to not work.

If the WAV file is not converted compatible, it will not play. If you converted it, try another program to convert it or change the settings of conversion.

well i converted from wma - wav. from Online Audio Converter (MP3, WAV, Ogg, WMA, M4A, AAC) – media.io it seemed to work fine through out the steps and i still have the dll from pressing play. in the 1033 replaced file. The sound has been like that even before the soiuynd change. is it a regular malfunction for windows 7 x 64?

I converted it through a program called TMPGEnc and it didn't work. When I converted it through jetAudio, it did work.
It may work on the Resource Hacker when you play it, but it may not work at start up. It happened to me before I converted it through jetAudio. I don't know what are the exact settings to make it work, but my problem was wrong conversion.

Well also before editing imageres.dll I haven't heard my start up sound in a long time. Even when the startup sound is checked in teh sound preference. It doesn't player and I've noticed that the sound at the bottom corner of the screen doesn't even load until the desktop loads up. I can actually show you guys what i mean if you want me to. I've been researching through the net and I have not found a way to actually get the startup sound to work even as the current unchanged startup sound. I also noticed that the startup sound .wav in media has no bytes or any size to it. Is thsi something else?
