Macrium free can restore to a smaller partition size as long as the used space fits.
Just need to drag the image to the new partition.
I had the same issue, and whs explained it in post #3 here:
Can Macrium restore a backup image to a smaller partition ?
Brink and I have already said this. Paragon Migrate is a very cheap turn key solution if the OP wants to get going quickly without playing too much with Macrium initially. It's just another quick option!
Yeah, you said this. But did you explain how.

Are just trying to be difficult - a rhetorical question.
You buy the Paragon product for $20 and follow the bouncing ball - it is a turn key program as you well know!
I provided the Paragon link and it is up to the user to decide if they want this option. Paragon describe the VERY simple steps involved.

Sorry I seem to have misunderstood. I thought you were referring to Macrium where it is very easy too. But the Paragon tool is fine. They once gave me one for free.

For me, with a multi-boot PC i wasn't sure if buying a tool would work correctly for migrating all OS's.
So i chose to try the Macrium free solution.
Yes it's the geeky approach, but i like to try and learn new things.

Some folks i help don't shop/buy online, so i try to find a free solution so they don't have to enter personal/financial info.

And some folks may prefer a free solution if they don't have extra $ to spend right now.

A little tip if you don't want to enter your credit card information on the web. Buy one of those money cards that are available from any Walmart or Walgreen.

And some "folks" are prepared to spend a trivial $20 for a simple solution.
People have been buying online for many years and there are safe mechanisms to do so.
The poster can take all suggestions on board and make their decision.

    Your "input" adds no value.

Only if the SSD is as large as the HDD. Otherwise the image won't fit on it.

You should be able to use Macrium Reflect to create the image with instead for this though.

    Imaging with free Macrium
Thanks Brink... Since I just performed an OS reinstall on my HDD, I don't have much to 'image' anyway (other than win7 updates). It's probably better if I just perform another clean install on the new SSD.

With the drag method you can dump a Macrium image to a smaller disk as long as the data fits.

I'm not sure if this was touched on in the original post as I just skimmed over it.

Does this create an *.iso file usable for a bootable usb flashdrive?

How would the bootable usb flashdrive be created using this *.iso file?

If you are looking for how to restore the image there is a separate tutorial here System Image Recovery
