Something like this, so we can see where the system and boot partitions are. Also , what are you trying to and why?

I'm just an old time norton ghost user who has found out that it wont install on W7 RTM. So I'm looking at the relative pros and cons of the new W7 backup option compared to norton ghost. For example I've found that you can restore individual files from a W7 backup by adding the image to the second or third drive of a windows virtual pc which is somewhat similar. Other issues such as being unable to make a system image without backing up another system image could be a deal breaker.

Anyways, your inital request for a screenshot of Disk Management was in reference to my question about not being able to set certain drives active...you correctly suggested that they were in an extended partition as shown in my screen shot.

I don't use windows pc image backup - it is way too inflexible. None too reliable either, from many reports.

MS do a good thing including it , but they are not trying to outperform the software specialists in each field. They just try to provide basic functionality with the apps . they bundle with the o/s.

You might take a look at Macrium Reflect - they have a free version - which may be all you need - it's worth trying to see if you like it.

It's the most efficient in the industry, the free version allows partition/drive backup and restore, images can be mounted and individual files copied back - includes scheduling, too.

I use it . Paragon also do a great range of backup/imaging apps. The free one on their website is too limited to be much use to you, though.

I think you will only get the System Image function in the 7 Pro and Ult versions- tho I didn't pay much attention since I won't be using it anyway.
