It should, but if it doesn't, then it may just need to be initialized in Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) before it will be able to be formated. If this happens, then sometimes it will prompt you to initialize the HDD when you open Disk Management. If not, then you can just right click on the Disk # (see boxed in red item below as example) for the HDD and see if it has a Initialize or Online option to select.

It just depends on the drive manufacturer and if they boxed the drive already formatted or raw. If raw, then it will need to be initialized. I believe most ship formatted these days.

If you have renamed the WindowsImageBackup, then
you must rename that system image backup to WindowsImageBackup
in order to restore the image.

I am re-installing Win7. This is a clean install on reformatted drive. For the earlier installation, Win7 Home Premium, I purchased the anytime up-grade. When re-install is done, I will activate with the upgrade. I read in this thread that restore disk needs to match the installation. So, If I understand correctly, my original MS installation disk will not work, I must create a restore disk after the upgrade and use my home-created disk for problem solving. Do I have that right?
