A few years later, but I hope you can help me.

When I click on the file in Explorer I get a system resore point. But when I make a task in Windows 8.1, Windows ask me what program I like to use for opening the vbs-file. I don't know what to answer.

Peter, you want to chose "Windows Script Host", WSH, or maybe it will be termed "Windows-Based Script Host" (Wscript.exe) However, the task manager should not be asking you that, it is baked into the OS. On my Win 8.1 task manager, I do not get that question.

When I choose for wcript.exe I don't get the question anymore, bit I don't see a new system restore point.

The script for task scheduler does not work in Windows 8. Based on System Restore Point Shortcut you need to take account of the SystemRestorePointCreationFrequency registry setting. Updated vbs is enclosed.

How to have a restore point created:

    a. automatically
    b. ONCE a day, at pc start (i.e. not at each restart)
    c. automatic naming e.g. RP-ddmmyyyy-hhmmss

    Thanks!

Thanks, BFK... excellent presentation. Extremely easy to comprehend without raising any internal 'what to do' questions.
