    Thanks LB. I had downloaded their SSD Toolbox before but AFAICT it did not have any trim or garbage collection features, but in any case required AHCI and I'm using IDE mode with this older motherboard.

    Your welcome.
    IDE mode only sounds like a great reason to build a new system.

    I did use IDE on a old system for a short time and found that SSD speeds where still great doing everyday things.
    You will recognize the speed change when you go back to a hard drive.

    Nah, the system was fine before, but I had the SSD laying around and now it's even better and until it dies AHCI sure ain't enough to inspire me to go thru the mountains of work that it would take to build this system-up from scratch again.

    I even have the parts in-hand to build a new system but there's not enough wrong with this PC to shoot it in the head yet.
