Hi, Brink, long time no see,
Thanks for the article. How my homegroup automatically changed to public. Is there any bug in the router.
I cannot access the internet automatically. Instead i have to select the use the following ip, in the ipv4 settings and supply the dns google server , i got back the homegroup icon and the connection. what is the mistake i am doing i do not know.
Secondly , how homegroup changed to public? And why i have to supply those following ips section, whenever i get this problem.
Please expecting a detailed reply and solution to this problem.
If i leave as unknown network, as it is, then there is no internet access and trouble shooter cannot solve the problem , why. May i expect a detailed reply with solutions

    One more problem.
I could not find my wireless adopter in my computer. It only shows the ethernet adopter.
But, when i enable the wireless in laptop, which it has, then i get the internet connection in laptop. But the local area network adopter is having a red x mark. Should i do something there to enable.
I am just supplying my connection to the laptop thro , my modem wlan, and it gets connected with authenticated password. But the lan adopter shows, but it is having a red x mark. why please brink, can i expect your favour of quick reply to the both queries.

    Hello jraju, :)

I'm not sure why it changed to public like that for you. You might also check using the tutorial below to make sure that your network profiles are set to private as well.

Network Location - Set as Home, Work, or Public Network

The local area network adapter is for Ethernet, and would only automatically be used instead of your wireless when you have an Ethernet cable connected to the laptop for Internet instead.

    Hi, Brink ,
i have scanned the laptop with avast and it says vulnerability of Rom 0 sector of the router and asked me to resolve that .It says resolved the issue. I do not know what it did . After that it has become auto public. I am having home group network. What is private network? Should i select that instead of home group. Or it is a sub group Home group. How to go about it. I also read about your article on the how to set private network by going to local policy settings.
Would you please elaborate, how it is safe to set to private? The terminology confusion is there ,home network , private network. Does it mean individual access different from family members access.
Why it cannot auto detects the connection.Pl give details or the links.

The second part of the answer clarified , why Lan is disabled in the laptop. Thanks

You would want to set your network type to be "private" since it's required to join a homegroup.

The rest of your questions should be asked and continued in your other thread since they are not related to this tutorial.

If this is not a PC used on public networks (ex: hotspots), then it would be safe to set it to "private" to be able to have better access with computers on your home network.
