Hum my Samsung is fast to password then it dies on the welcome screen the original run was 171 secs and now as in the pic

Don't know what the go is as I have all of Shawn's optimise things set up

As an afterthought my tester with an M4 is twice as fast as the Sandy Bridge - it has a Q9650 on an Intel DG43NB board 32bit 7 Home 4GB RAM whereas I have 16GB RAM in the SB.
    Hello John,

You might check your startup programs to see if one may be causing a delay. You could test by temporarily disabling them in msconfig to see how your time changes, then enable them one by one and test after each one to see how it affects the time.

Thanks Shawn I'll do that although I am sure I have only my security and the OS plus a couple set in it.

I do have scan memory at start up on the tester - Comodo but I am sure the Kaspersky on my main machines only scan on demand, after updates (which only happens once it is booted to the password window) and on schedule (weekly) and usually on the same day well after I would have booted the machine up.

It maybe that Kaspersky is naturally longer winded than the Comodo I suppose because they are sort of similar in size apps.

Hello suave mate if you haven't got this on then it will save you a but more time in everything not just the boot. You will have to sacrifice transparency and some other bits but personally I would sooner have speed than the bling:)

Nothing to be ashamed about pedroc mate just put in some more RAM the DDR2 stuff is not expensive The 1GB will be slowing you down mate.

Try this to it will speed up not just the boot either.

Thanks for the heads-up. I actually use the thumbs preview when I work with several applications, comparing data real time.
Hence my reluctance to upgrade to Windows 8.
