But does Rufus restrict you one ISO on the flash drive?

Not really.

If you used Rufus to put a windows iso on usb, then it will be the extracted contents, which use windows boot process.

Windows boot process cannot direct boot iso files , as far as I know.

If you want to dump iso files on the usb as well, you will have to use something linux to boot them.

But if you only want to put other windows wim files on there, then you can boot those via windows process. Simply add the entries to bcd. Not difficult.

What is the best format to use on the USB stick or does it matter. Fat, Fat32, NTFS.

If you allow YUMI to do the format it's FAT32

Although YUMI supports NTFS there are warnings that it is unstable and that FAT32 is best.

It depends on where you want to use it.

My friend's Macbook can't write to NTFS formatted devices (it can read from them though).

I used Rufus 1.4.6 to install the Macrium PE rescue ISO on a USB stick and it would only allow NTFS but it would not boot. I then formatted back to fat32 and used Macrium to write to the USB stick and it works great. I used PE5 on my 8.1 system to build.
