If this is not working you should try this:
Go To "Rules and Alerts"
Under "Email Rules" click "New Rule"
Select "Apply rule on messages I receive" and click "Next"
At the next screen, don't tick anything just click "Next"
Click "Yes" on the pop up
On the next screen choose "display a Desktop Alert" click "Next"
The next screen is to add exceptions. If you have any, select them here then click "Next"
On the final screen, make sure "Turn on this rule" is checked and, if you wish, tick "create this rule on all accounts" and click "Finish"
Click "Apply" followed by "OK"
Done..

Barbarossa,

No. Outlook must be running in order for it to know that you have recieved new email, and give you an alert notice.

With that comment, I'm not sure if you may understand what Outlook is. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Outlook is a separate email client program that is used to recieve your email on your computer with if you do not wish to check your email on your email provider's website instead.

Outlook does use some memory while running. Here's what it uses on my system.

I know what Out is. I only use it for tasks and such at home. I don't really need it but what is a PC without Office.
