Force DVI/HDMI resolutions and refresh rates

First of all a big thanks to baarod for starting this wonderful thread and providing such valuable information.

Fantastic input and great tutorial! This seems to be the ultimate solution to my problems with refresh rates under Win7. I can't thank you enough.
However I'm stuck with the PED Helper.

I've used Office XP, OpenOffice, Kingsoft Office 2009 and it works fine. I took another look now and opened it in spread32 (which is less than 1MB!) and found a problem - the dropdown aspect thinghy was getting calculated (4:3 becomes 1.3333). It works correctly if you manually input the Aspect ratio as pointed. Maybe it's the same problem in Office 2007, I cannot test it.

I've done a small hotfix by adding extra space near ":" and now it works fine in spread32 also.
Please re-download it.

I too have this problem with the PED Helper for CRTs.
I run Windows 7 x64, OO 3.1.1 and MS Office 2003.
Refresh rates aren't calculated in the PED_HELPER (macros free version 0.2).xls in either of the above programs.
Macros activated.
Something's gotta be wrong with your calculations. Could you please take another look at your .xls sheet?! Thank you!

Found the "bug".

It's in $HELPER C115.
In OpenOffice the returned values aren't T and F, but 1 and 0.
I modified the values in E115 and E117 from T and F to 1 and 0 and now it works (see pct. 1).
In Excel the returned values are F and W instead of F and T (TRUE = WAHR in german). So it is a problem with the german localization and probably applies for some if not most non-english spreadsheet applications.
In OpenOffice a minor "bug" occurs which doesn't seem to apply for Excel:
Your custom refresh rate, which you can enter in cell G13 is not included in the calculation. This is due to cell G13 formated as text instead of number (see pct. 2). Change this and you're good.

In Excel 2003 I can't unprotect the password protected sheet and thus can't alter or even see the formulas.
In OpenOffice 3.1.1 however I can (without password).

Yes, there are many issues with my PED Helper

I had the ambition to not use macros, and have something similar to the original excel files from VESA (no macros in them to begin). But not using macros means you are limited to excel formulas for doing things, and those do not play well when dealing with caseto beof contrains. When I find the time again I will update this. I also want that this "helper" to become the tool - because Phoenix Edid Designer is not perfect also (lots of problems with data getting corrupted when changing blocks, limited pixel clock input etc). Stay tuned.

I can't get this to work. I did everything step by step to try and force my monitor to 120hz but it's not working.

With the way things are now, I can't even select 640x480 (counterstrike) so I can't force the screen to run 120hz on that reso.

Can someone make me the correct inf file? I only need 120 hz on 640x480 and 1152x864

I have a iiama vision master pro 454 crt monitor.
Videocard GTX 280

Okay, so I'm lazy.

Anyone already created a file for a Mitsubishi DiamondPro 2070SB? I gotta get my QuakeLive running at 1024x768 @ 120Hz.

You would think with 120 and even 240Hz displays becoming commonplace for TVs that Microsoft would add some support for high refreshes.

Is doing this method going to result in a game keeping the set refresh rate when running instead of reverting back to 60 hz? That's my biggest complaint. For games that have in game refresh rate settings, it's clear cut. But, for games that don't, they pay no attention to what the refresh rate was set at, the OS forces them back to 60 hz when they run. I would like to be able to prevent this from happening.

Hey,

I've got an hd ready TV with an native resolution of 1366x768.
So I'm trying to create an custom inf file. But when I extract the EDID from the registry and I go to the standard timings I only see disabled blocks with an H.active of 256 and an refresh of 61. (See screenshot)
When I open the EDID of my laptop screen, it's just the same.

How to fix?

I have a laptop to which I connect a Flatron 915FT Plus 19" CRT. When I first installed Windows 7 I could just install my old inf-driver from 2002 and everything worked perfectly, ran 120hz in my games and so on.

At one point I uninstalled the driver and now I can't install it again (I even reinstalled Windows.) When I try to update the driver it just reports that it already uses the best suited driver and skips to the end. I also tried making my own inf - but no luck.
The monitor already reports Generic Non-PnP Monitor, so shouldn't both the old and new infs be working?
The laptop monitor detects as Generic PnP Monitor, but that shouldn't interfere?

Any ideas?
