Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

  1.    #960

I always have Users start Win7 to add XP since it works better, thus the Write MBR step is not necessary.

The only scenario I've had time to test so far is using EasyBCD from within Windows 7 to add XP.

I haven't had time and don't expect to any time soon to test adding Windows 7 while in XP, maybe the first part on next week I will be able make time to start testing that.

What about this test: Windows 7 : XP Tests?

It points to not needing the Write MBR step when adding 7 from XP with Easy.

Ok, here are my results after doing extensive testing. I did this in a VM with 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate installed first, then installing 32-bit XP PRO SP3 second.

How I have METHOD TWO currently in the tutorial is the way that worked everytime for me without issue. :)

    EasyBCD

If I'm running EasyBCD on my Windows XP, do I have to add Windows 7 to the bootloader or the Windows XP to the bootloader (where Im selecting the operating system I want to start up with)?...
    Replay fast please.

Hello Toricorn, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It depends on which one you had installed first.

If you are doing METHOD TWO, then you can just follow the steps for how.

If you are doing METHOD ONE, then there is no need to unless you are missing one in the "Windows Boot Manager" screen.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
