The ei.cfg Removal Utility is a standalone portable app, and requires no installation. In fact, the program does not have much of a user interface at all. Simply selecting the target Windows 7 ISO, and the disc image (ISO) will be patched right away. So make sure a backup copy of your ISO is created beforehand.
hmm.. so my work is no good.
am I the only one with a regimented serial-logic brain ... we have steps 1. through n... but nowhere after the number 1. is there instruction to run the ei tool....
so I'm assuming that the right order is to copy all the data off the DVD's [in my case] and place that in folders, just like he says, but then to run the tool and point the tool at the folders, one at a time, to toggle the bit? after that is done, to the export function, rename the folder to whatever, then burn the iso.
if I'm wrong someone pls correct me...
then, since I was running ahead to create an iso - I have used Imgburn for years and never had any issue making iso images. now when I run the latest version, it first detects that the folder is for an iso creation, then it tells me to backup and select the option to make it bootable, after which I get an error saying "you have not selected a file to make bootable".... I'm just busted. tried googling about to see what the issue is but no luck so far. maybe I'll try ultraiso.

The ei.cfg Removal Utility is used against the .iso file. Or your method of unpacking the iso and deleting or renaming it, ex. ei.cgf.bak, should work too.

another thing I've never seen: i've used the windows usb utility a lot: after running the ei.cfg utility tool on one of the iso's I extracted using WinRAR, the windows USB creation tool says "not a vaild iso"....
I took it from a known good disc. just used the disc twice in last few days... excellent.
any idea? is the tool looking for the ei data?
ah... got it. figure out the imgburn methods, and got a good composite image. win usb tool now building.

I have a question on creating the Universal Disk here. I have access to Microsoft Volume Licensing site and I have keys for the OS's on that site. I want to make a Universal Disk to be able to install both the systems I am licensed for and for repair work on customers computer for the systems they are licensed for. I have downloaded the Windows 7 Pro ISO in both 32 and 64 bit versions. I have followed the information on this about making the Universal Disk, but when I examined the install.wim file, it only shows that it has the Pro version and non of the others.
Should the ISO's from Microsoft's own VL center have all the items included in the ISO? I have access to the Pro and Enterprise ISO's on this site. I understand that the Enterprise is totally different and it does not include the others. Thanks in advance.
Is is possible to do this with windows 8. I know this is not the Eight forums. But I did not know where to put this on the eight forums. I would like to do this is possible but with windows 8 on a USB drive.

You need the install media which contains install.wim. (MSDN/Technet editions of the iso)
