Multi Router Network - Configure

Nice write up and thank you for it.

Ok i just want to ask is this what i would do for my setup or some thing a bit different. Here is what i want, i have more then 10 items online and i want to have some on one network and the others on another one.

House setup is this, my wife and 2 kids live upstairs and mother/father and brother in-law down stairs and 1 internet connection, some hardware in the house is

4 HTPC's
3 XBOX's
2 PS3's
5 PC's
4 Laptops
1 Media Server
and phones and other items that use the internet

What i want is to have all the adults stuff on one router and have the kids on the other along with there friends when they come over so that if they don't do as there told, well you know what will happens with the internet lol.
So that means 4 HTPC's 2 XBOX's 2 PS3's 2 Laptops and the media server on one router and the rest and the visiting kids on the other router.

Routers in the house are Cisco DPL3825 (Given to us From ISP)
Linksys E3000 Kids router
Netgear WNDR3700v2 Adults router

Ohh and to make sure the kids router does not need to talk with the adults one at all

It this write up the same way i would set mine up or is there some thing different i need to do.

I have to disagree with the DHCP Pool settings. If you only have 2 to 20 computer, or even more, you shouild not set the DHCP Pool from .2 to .252. This stops you from assigning Static IPs to things like Printers, which IMHO should always have a static IP. Yes some routers allow you to use the DHCP Pool for static IPs but most do not. Also some router have DHCP IP assignments by MAC address. That is fine if you use them for all or most of your Ethernet devices. Again some router do not have that feature. So if you use don't assign static IPs to things like printers at some point they will get a different IP from the pool and no one will be able to print.

one question! do i need two separate telephone line for two routers?

Good tutorial and I successfully set up the switch and can use that as a second wireless access.

I want to connect wired devices to the switch, is that possible at all? I have tried but it doesn't seem to work at all. Is there something I need to set if i want LAN in addition to Wifi from that switch? OR is this a function of the router and I need a new router? I use an old Netgear WPN824v2 as switch.

I noticed the routers have "RIP" settings. do they mean anything for this? (the router kind of explains what it is, but not sure what it means)

BTW, I learned the hard way that the switch LAN cable from the Gateway needs to be plugged into one of the 4 ports, and not in that single port normally coming from the Modem. The booby trap here is that it still shows a strong wireless signal, but doesn't actually work (I tried with my phone). I also decided to give switch a different SSID so I see what I'm currently connected to. My devices automatically connect to the stronger signal anyway.

Thank you for the tutorial, it made sense and I have a setup. I also bought an extender from Netgear to reach further with wireless. My thought was that this would extend the range of my current SSID. I was surprised that the SSID_Ext was provided which turns out to be a separate WiFi item.

My question is there a way to have that extender be on the same SSID as my original and not separate a different SSID requiring a different password?
