In Option Two, once you move the toolbar to the left, you would need to move the border of a pinned item to the right of the toolbar over to the left far enough to compress all the items in the Downloads toolbar until you only see the Downloads folder and the expand arrow above it to the right a bit.
Thanks, this sounds reasonable (though my problem arose when leaving the toolbar on the right, or am I misunderstanding again ?). Anyway I have a working solution for now so will quit while I'm ahead.
Thanks again for all your hard work, a

You're most welcome ADJ.

Using Option Two with the toolbar on the right, you should be able to drag it to the right until all you see is the folder and the expansion arrow above it.

Yeah, since Option One will work for you, then that'll make it easier to drag it where you like within the pinned program icons.

I honestly only registered here because of you and this thread.

I wan't to thank you for taking the time to make a very detailed tutorial on how to work the toolbar. Your thread helped me a lot.

Thank you sir.

My two cents worth added

Just like @F4r3r, I too joined to say thank you for this tutorial/thread. For me, option 1 didn't work, but I tried option 2 and it worked great. Option 1 only kept showing me the contents of the folder in an opened Windows Explorer window. Option 2 let me cascade (and thus easily access) the items within the folder (aka toolbar) directly from my taskbar. This makes life much easier for me, especially when I have 10 or more apps opened full screen and I need to get to one of my commonly used items real quick (and I want to keep everything opened full screened without minimizing everything).

Also, I wanted to add an additional trick for anyone else who uses this thread. Once you complete the steps in this tutorial, also add the new folder shortcut to the following folder:

"C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo"
- replacing <User Name> with your user name

Now, whenever you want to add a new item to the folder/toolbar, all you have to do is "Sent To" the new folder and a copy of the item will be appear in the nicely cascaded list.

Thanks again
Good tutorial

I'm afraid that I need more details and screenshots about your issue. I don't understand what you mean.

Sorry if this was already addressed.

I followed method one and created the shortcut and have it pinned. BUT now when I click on the pinned shortcut, I have to choose which program to use to open it every time. "Open With" does not appear on the context menu to permanently assign a program to this shortcut.

Any help is appreciated.

PS: What I have pinned is the Windows Hosts text file, because I often add sites to block. This file has no file extension.
