Downloading Windows7 XP Mode issue, help please.

I recently bought windows 7 ultimate and decided to download xp mode (i am led to believe it is not included with the install disc) I get to the windows virtual pc web page, select my windows version and language. Then when i click to download and install windows xp mode i am told

    Windows validation required

When prompted, select Open, then select Run and follow the instructions given. Please wait for the Windows update installation to finish, then click Continue to complete the validation process and continue on with your download.

Which i did however when it finishes installing the only option i have is to close there is no continue option. Now when i go back to download xp mode the same thing happens i have done the same process 8 times. My windows 7 is a full genuine retail version bought from a shop. Can anyone help please?

    Cheers

Is this the site your downloading from?:

    Download Windows XP Mode

Pro & Ult. are eligible, not sure why your having problems. Maybe try a sys. restore to a point just prior to trying the download and start over...

Did you restart Firefox? The WGA plugin doesn't register until FF is restarted

Technically yes but when I was running Firefox, I found this plugin to be a hit or miss. Most of the time it was a miss.

It did the same for me, but eventually there was another screen that finally open and allowed me to save the download. It worked with Internet Explorer.

It did the same for the other two pieces you need to download. Just be patient.

    Good Luck!

If you just want to download it, instead of clicking open and run, click "save".

Welxome to the Seven Forums! RectangleMan

If you just installed W7 fresh and haven't gone for all of the Windows updates it's likely you don't have the Windows 3.1 or 4.0 installer on yet. This is required to be downloaded and installed before you can go for any updates or other MS downloads that require the installation be validated ahead of time.

There will be two requirements to check on first however before actually downloading the Virtual PC that then proceeds to download the XP Mode and set it for you. 1) enable the virtualization option if present in the bios and 2) see if your hardwares actually support the Virtual PC and virtualization as a rule using the compatibility testing tool from Windows Virtual PC: Configure BIOS

If the tool shows a lack of support the alternative option for the XP Mode would be going for the VM Lite Workstation for XP Mode. Since you still haven't filled out your system specs problems with certain Intel model cpus exist were the VPC simply won't go on and run requiring the 3rd party solution. Download - VMLite Products

Note you will have to registar if you find that will be needed. That successfully loaded and ran the XP Mode on an old Socket A single core cpu machine and still sees the intergrated components working as well.

You need the second download "Windows Virtual PC" too. The third update Enables Windows XP Mode for PCs without Hardware Assisted Vitalization Technology.
At the bottom of the page it reads as follows, did you try that?
Once you have installed Windows XP Mode, click the Windows 7 Start button , then select All Programs > Windows Virtual PC > Windows XP Mode to begin setup. For information on how to set up Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode, check out "Running Windows XP Mode with Windows Virtual PC" on the Support and Videos page.
