Well, VMware Player and VMware Workstation can import XP Mode.
VirtualBox can use the VHD files that XP mode uses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VHD_(file_format)
The VM Lite Workstation for XP Mode is the best alternative still seeing the integrated components feature supported. I ran the XP Mode on an old Socket A build seeing a temp install of the 32bit Ultimate while the new build here was slightly out of commission for a few weeks.
That doesn't require the hardware support as required for the VPC. You will also want to download the plugin as well as the main program seen at Download - VMLite Products
I am mounting a a vm on my windows 7 64 bit using vm server and liveview 7 however I need to disable my drive signature in the advanced boot screen or the same screen where safe mode is, however when I press f8 I get an option on which disk to load. I chose one press f8 again and the screen is being skipped and I cant change this setting. Can anyone help on what I must change to access my advanced boot screen or why my pc which is a three part bootup(dos/98/7) won't allow me to choose anymore? It just starts up 7 and I cant get into the safe mode screen.
Hello crf37 Welcome to the Seven Forums!
You're quite correct that with 7 installed you won't be able to boot into the Legacy version 98 or dos since 7 runs on the NT file system(NTFS) and doesn't support the old Legacy boot loader. As far as the F8 option it sounds like you are likely running a board with the Award or Phoenix bios seen on it.
The F8 key when pressed at the end of the post tests however also brings up the Windows boot options like hte safe mode. The time to press the same key for bringing up the boot device menu for selecting drives however is not when Windows is about to load but right as the lights(if any) start to blink on the keyboard and the first post screen appears or manufacturer's full logo screen if enabled.
Tap the F8 key right when those lights blink and then select the drive or device to boot from. Or you could see 98 running as well as a newer version like XP on the Oracle VirtualBox.
