Applcation won't install in XP mode

I've been installing XP applications in XP Mode for a while with no issues. Today I tried to install TextBridge Pro 11 and received the following message:
"This installation could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package."

I varified that the software would install on a PC with XP as it's main operating system.

I searched the internet for issues that seemed similar. I updated Windows installer to 4.5, I reset the installer service to automatic from manual, temporaily disabled antivirus and the firewall, and restarted and rebooted several times with the same result.

Again this is the first application I tried to install that has given me any issues.

Because the application installed in a normal XP environment, I tend to think it has something to do with virtualization. Has anyone encountered similar issues? Any help would be appreciated.

Does it have an executable file, or an .msi and exe. I would try using one or the other.

Did you run a Microsoft update and see if there are any updates.

outdated versions of msi.dll and msiexec.exe will cause that error. Running Microsoft Update should resolve the problem.

Try running the .msi in a windows command prompt with a space , then /passive command after it.

Do you have enough HD space allocated to the Virtual Machine?

tried runnig in with the /passive install flashes and it's done. I ran it without the /passive to verify the syntax was correct and got the previous error.

It is very quick installing with the /passive command. Not doubting you but did you check to see if there was the program icon on desktop after.

Not really sure the problem unless I try installing this program myself to my Windows Xp mode.

Sorry for the confusion. What I ment was running with /passive caused the installer to to start, then then disappear. Running without the option gives me the original error I started with "This installation could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package."

This tells me running in with /passive still terminates, i just didn't get any messages.

To date it is only this one package tha won't install in xp mode. Again it will install on a normal xp machine. I am inquiring to the company for support but because the product is a previous release i think I know what their reply is going to be (upgrade).

windrider, I can send you a copy the msi. There shouldn't be any legal issues since you wont be able to register or use the product with out the serial number. Let me know if and how you want to proceed.
