Vmware new version 7.1.3 weird problem

Hi all
Weird problem with latest version of vmware workstation (both on W7 X64 and X86 host)

XP virtual machine

1) with network adapter set to NAT -- the VM can only see and access files on the HOST machine as network drives. It can PING IP addresses of other machines on the same LAN but can't access any drives. Internet access is OK.

2) Network adapter setting to Bridged. Now the VM can see and access ALL the machines on the LAN but cannot access files on the HOST machine . Ping works in all cases.

I'm going BONKERS on this one -- really strange network problem --have done all the usual stuff like switched firewalls off etc etc. No avail.

Cheers
jimbo

Well, the first problem is normal, when you use NAT (network address translation) it seperates the network into it's own, or a seperate network, therefore you cannot access it's resources, kinda like a firewall. Everything can go out fine, but not back in...

And for 2, it pretty much is set as another client on your LAN, it gets it own MAC and IP address, just uses your physical adapter to access the router and etc. just as if you were to add another physical computer to your LAN.

Hi there
Then case 2 SHOULD be able to access ALL computers on the LAN (including the HOST machine) --permissions etc properly set and in same subnet.
