    Physical DVD Burner in VirtualXP?

Has anyone been able to get the VirtualXP environment to see a physical DVD burner as a burner, rather than just a DVD drive?

I've configured the setting to use my physical F: drive which is a LG DVD burner. However any software I have loaded into VirtualXP does not recognize this drive as a burner.

I can put a DVD in the physical drive and access it via the virtual environment. That part works just fine. But no burning capability.

I guess this would be moot if I could get Nero to install on W7/64.

Pretty sure I read that DVD burning is not capable in a vm environment. Looking at mine, it too states DVD drive, and right clicking a file and choosing "send to" doesn't bring up a DVD link.

I hear ya with the Nero, I only will use Nero 6 ultra and for most features, its linked to only my Sony ide DVD burner as it came with it. It works well when using a sata/ide to usb adapter though. So if I install nero6 with that drive attached to any pc via the adapter, all features work.

The only reason for seeing the dvd drive is to allow access to removable media as well as seeing software installations on the VM itself. Most likely the only thing you would end up seeing is the failed to initialize device error.

As far as Nero 8 Essentials that's running on the second 64bit 7 installation here at the present time. You have to run the installer in the Vista compatibility mode with 8.
