No, because I'm not using an intel Mac. And it would be cheaper for me to buy an XP laptop if I can find one than even a new MAC mini, or Windows laptop I would have to do the same thing in upgrading to 7 pro to run XP.

What a nightmare. But I let my impatience run up and down the ball court with me, so I'll just have to chill out and find an XP laptop somewhere.
You don't need Intel Mac to run VirtualBox. At least try to download and install it, then install XP to a vm running in VirtualBox on your Mac?
Thank you, but I'm afraid. I'm not jacking up my beloved Solomon to run Windows. My MAC is serving me famously. I wouldn't even consider using anything but a MAC. I'd rather deal with Windows on somethihng else. I only need it to run one piece of software. It isn't worth tampering with my system for. MACS are too expensive to be fooling around with.

But I just received a response to my email from Microsoft with a link to a download they claim will resolve the issue, but I'm not banking on it. If it don't work out, I'm unloading this thing on eBay. Somebody can get the brand new netbook with 2 gigs, 7 pro and even a DVD drive, the whole shebang for well over a hundred bucks below my investment.

If I get lucky, this download will help or I'll recover enough money from eBay to buy a refurbed XP laptop. I just discovered Tiger Direct. They carry an assortment of refurbed XP laptops for a little over 300 bucks. Darn, if only I had done that in the first place. My bad.

I'll get back to you to let you know how it turns out.

Thanks again.

I could understand that if you would never install any additional software to your Mac because "it's so expensive", as you say, and only use the software that was pre-installed. Sadly, a very common attitude among Mac users; Mac is more to show others "Look! I have a Mac" than to really do real computing with it.

Running VirtualBox on a Mac is as running any other application on it. Especially, as you say, when you need XP only for occasionally run one application. It's a free alternative. That's what I do when I occasionally need Mac, I run it on VirtualBox on my Windows 7 PC. Of course this also left me with enough money to have an additional Windows laptop because I didn't have a need to spend extra money to buy a Mac. For me, a computer is a computer. Not a showpiece.

Here's My "Mac", running on VirtualBox virtual machine on secondary display of my Windows 7 desktop:

It's not a matter of showpiece for me, but simply that for me MAC is easy to understand, troubleshoot and use. I've been only a MAC user for over a decade now, and in all that time never once did I ever have to call any tech support or ask anyone any questions on how to manage or troubleshoot it. In my opinion, the extended warranty they sell for it is a rip off because most users will never need it. I never experienced a problem with it I wasn't able to resolve on my own. Never. For me it's simply a dream machine for ease of use. I'm technology challenged and don't like complicated things.

I believe you if say that the free emulation program works for you, but I don't understand it so I'm not risking my MAC to run it. I believe safe is better than sorry. But I definitely will investigate info on the program to learn something about it. Who knows? I may even break down and give it try. Though I doubt it. It would be great if I could run it on this netbook. I don't see why a Windows based machine is made not to run it's own software. The whole thing to me is a big rip off on consumers. A big fiasco. I don't have to deal with this on a MAC.

If you still have the Netbook, you may want to make sure you install XP mode properly. First, download and install (run) Windows Virtual PC: Download details: Windows Virtual PC. Since you have the 32-bit version of Windows 7 from what you've indicated, select the x86 version. Then, download and install the HAV Update: Download details: Update for Windows 7 (KB977206). Finally, download the actual XP Mode virtual hard drive: Download details: Windows XP Mode. Hopefully it works.

Ultimately though, if you're looking and decide to simply go for an old XP Laptop, you can always look on eBay or some websites that specialize in selling refurbished desktops and laptops.

Thank you Darician,

But it didn't work. It was already installed on my system and hiding someplace where it didn't show up. Microsoft never replied to my email and I found what Kari said from other sources to be true, that it can't run XP mode. Most of the new computers and netbooks simply cannot. But I unloaded it on eBay and it got got before I even found it in the listings.

Hey, I lost over half on my investment, but the good news is that I picked up a refurbed XP laptop off eBay just as you said, and from a laptop seller with an impeccable FB record. I bought a Fair Trade warranty for it too, I can't wait for it to arrive, and there's no reason I should have any problems with this software I need to run.

And I even got a few bucks left over from the sale. Imagine that. I could bop myself on the head!

I'll get back to you and let you know how things turn out with this software I need to run.
