There are programmes that will not run on Windows 7, for example- Quicken 2004. I have data that I need to access going back to 1993. I cannot transfer this data to the newer version of Quicken and therefore need XP for as long as I need to access the data. I just hope that Windows 7 Pro will still have the ability to run XP for many years to come.
of course, Microsoft wont randomly remove the xp mode feature for kicks. Many businesses use it. Are you sure you cannot run quicken 2004 in xp compatibility mode on windows 7 WITHOUT the xp mode virtualization software?

I have tried loading the software onto Windows 7 but it doesn't go. I got a previous version to load onto Vista but the data wouldn't load. Contacted Quicken and they said they pulled the plug in the UK and Windows XP was the last OS that supported it. There is a US newer version that works on 7 but again the data from 2004 cannot be transfered to it. I you know a way around this I would be very interested.

I have an application that cannot be run in anything BUT xp. It just will not work anyplace else so I need to run it using my Windows 7 laptop (I no longer have an xp system). It is a custom application that I use for our church and it would be far far more work to rewrite/redo everything so running it in xp mode on my current system works just great. I just wanted to be assured I could run it on my wife's system (Win7 Home) and to have a copy of win xp just in case something ever changes with xp mode.
You can just use Compatibility Mode or VirtualBox for this old application, there is no real need for XP
That has been tried by many folks at our church and this is the only solution. It must be xp and it must run windows media 10.0 ONLY nothing else will work we have tried it. Not to go into lots of details but I am afraid you just don't understand it cannot work outside of xp with windows media 10.0 end of story.
When you say I can use VirtualBox will it run in xp mode?

XP Mode is a virtual machine for Windows Virtual PC that you are entitled to use if you own a copy of Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate.
Virtualbox is a virtualization software, just like Windows Virtual PC and like VMWare's VMWare Player.
I know that VMWare Player 3.x allows you to convert XP Mode into the vmware format and you can use that within VMware Player. I'm not aware of a direct convert within Virtualbox to achieve the same result.
if anyone's interested I found a prestine "shrinked wrapped" copy of MS Dos 6.22 on 3 x 3.5" discs....
....only problem I can see is that I haven't seen or used a floppy drive in ages!! lol.

PLEASE ENGAGE BRAIN BEFORE MAKING TOTALLY ASSINE POSTS LIKE THIS.
Some old programs will NOT run in compatability mode -- also drivers often won't work either in legacy mode.
I don't want to flame individuals BUT AT LEAST CHECK OUT STUFF BEFORE YOU POST. AND TEST IT AS WELL IF YOU CAN.
