For the record, i don't use SSD space for any of my virtual machines at all. I use 7,200 RPM drives like Western Digital Caviar Blues, and 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blacks and they are very, very speedy on these.
I just don't want somebody to get the impression that you have to run an SSD to get decent virtual machine performance.
I run several Virtual Machines on my desktop. I agree that they are much faster than a standard OS. I point to your processor as a weak point in your VMs. I would also watch how much RAM you allocate to the VMs. In my usage VirtualBox works better on older hardware than VMWare; also it is free. :)
So it looks like we've come to the conclusion that its my low clock speed. Oh well....everything else works just fine.
Slightly off-topic, but I'd like to put a second OS on my system....either Linux or Vista (don't have SATA drivers for XP), I currently have two partitions on my laptop, an OS partition (for Win7) and a DATA partition (for all my documents), do you think I would be slowed down if I added a third partition for a second OS?
Making the physical swap is very easy - just a couple of screws. There are many tutorials on the net. For the rest, download my tutorial from here. Check whether you have a 2.5" HDD (probably) or one of the rare 1.8" HDDs.
Okay great, I'll definitely look into it, probably won't happen for quite a while tho, I'm running short on $$$$
