XP Mode / Virtual XP Not loading

So I think XP mode heard me bad mouthing it from my previous thread.

When I try to load up one of the XP apps through XP Mode it doesn't come up.

A process comes up called vmsal.exe loads up 3 megs or so, hangs out for two-three minutes, then disappears.

When I try to load up the virtual pc itself to reboot it I get this:

    Halp me please. =)

Did you install the Virtual PC Beta first? That will be the first question anyone will ask here since you have to install that ahead of the XP mode. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Once you double click on the download be sure to restart the system before trying again to reinstall the XP Mode and start it up where you then have to start off by creating the new vhd.

Yeah, I did, I just realized this problem cropped up after I updated my 7100 to 7264.

A reinstall of the programs will probably fix it.

Once you change builds or even perform a repair install of the same both the VPC and XP mode will need a fresh install. You can however back up the existing vhd and other files and allow those to overwrite the new ones created to save everything you already have on.

When browsing to the "C:\users\(present user name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines" folder you simply copy+paste or move all files into a temp folder for later retrieval. Once you have the fresh install of both simply copy the files saved back into that location and allow the overwrite to take place.

The image here shows how both the XP mode and Vista installation files appear in that location. You should see the 3 XP mode files if you ran that for a bit before the next build was put on. The second image shows how you can also make a shortcut for the XP Mode and add that to a new toobar as well.
