    Virtual PC Beta Eval.


    Just wanted to comment on how fast virtual machines run on Windows 7 with Virtual PC Beta and the Integration Features enabled. It is so awesomely fast! Its like Night and Day on a Vista Virtual PC. If you build one, run Vista, then enable the features, its like 10x faster.

    I can't believe they go Aero working as well on a Windows 7 guest machine, when you are basically using a Remote Desktop Connection. Good Job MS!!!

    Good job on the USB device sharing too!

    My only gripe is that the network is soooo slow that it seriouly takes 10 min to transfer like 5MB. I am sure it will be worked out, but if I try to pull files from my Host machine, to the guest using the network adapter, it takes forever. So slow that the speed doesn't even register. It just finishes after about 10 minutes. No biggie though with the shared usb, I just plug in a pen drive and transfer them that way.

    I am running a host machine of 7600 with guest machines of Windows XP SP3, Vista SP2 and a guest 7264.

    The XP mode has full access to all drives while the Vista installation only sees A=floppy, Virtual C=vhd, and dvd=dvd drive used for installation. You still see the usual Vista or XP mode startup time while the VPC loads Windows there.

    The shutdown is a bit faster with a one tweak however! Shut Down -Speed Up

    Besides 7 I tried that out on both the XP mode and Vista Home Premium vhd there. Once either is loaded up fully they run quite a bit smoother if you have noticed over a typical dual boot setup.

Is it possible to use the Virtual PC Beta in 7 for another OS? From my understanding, previous versions of VPC use software virtualisation while this beta uses hardware virtualisation, so it's better for testing other operating systems.
