Compressing vhd file in Windows XP Mode

I have 64-bit Win 7 Professional.

In Windows XP Mode I have a total of 10 GB of files but the size of the corresponding vhd file is 42GB. Is there any easy way of compressing the vhd file and getting back my disk space?

Windows 7 64-bit

Problem solved! I've discovered that there is a button to compact Win XP Mode Virtual Hard Disk in Windows Virtual PC. I just pressed it and quarter of an hour later the job was done and the vhd file was down to a mere 11Gb, a little larger than the sum total of the files in it.

I have a very weird issue that is happening on more than 1 PC. When we zip or compress files to create one zip file, 1 file is always missing! the only way we can get around this is to open up WinZip and drag all the files in. How come we can't zip in windows 7! very frustrating:mad:.
