I have an Acer Aspire 5630 and am trying to enable vt in bios.

    Hi there.
I am not sure exactly if this is the correct place to put this question,as I have not posted in a forum before..
    My problemis this....
I am trying to set up a virtual machine on my Acer Aspire 5630.
I get a message saying that I need to enable vt.
I have searched a bit and found that the bios can be "modified" to allow the vt to be enabled.
I am capable of attempting this, but I need to know what I need to do.
As I understand, I have to download a new bios, (one that is compatible with my laptop) which I have, and then it seems to get complicated...
I know there is quite possibly and easier way to do this, but as yet I have not found one.
    I am running windows 7 ultimate 64bit.
I thank you in advance for any help you can give me regarding this, and hope someone can send me a "step-by-step" on what to do.
    Regards.

Just a suggestion why not Virtual Box or Widows Virtual PC, here is a link to install Widows Virtual Pc: Windows Virtual PC - Create Virtual Machine

Someone else may have a better suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion... Unfortunately, if you look at the link you sent me, where it says minimum system requirements, one is that you need 1 GHz 32-bit / 64-bit processor that supports Intel® Virtualization Technology or AMD Virtualization.
That is why I need to mod the bios....I am sure my processor supports vt, I just can't enable it without the bios being changed. so thanks again, but hopefully someone else may be able to assist me in the mod for the bios so I can get vt enabled and then I ca use virtualmachine.

I seem to remember that either there was a hotfix issued by Microsoft or Virtual PC (the component running XP Mode) itself was updated so it no longer requires hardware virtualization to be enabled.

However if you wish to go ahead with flashing your BIOS, be aware there's always a small risk of things going very, very wrong.
The safest way is to perform the BIOS update from a true DOS environment - there are tools you can find through Google that can format and prep a USB stick to boot to an MS-DOS prompt, then you simply add the BIOS file and the appropriate flash .exe and boot from the stick.
