    Which version of VXP???

A couple of months ago, I downloaded a copy of VXP (WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe for my 7600 build (RTM off Technet), and the binary claims to be version 6.2.29.0, and has a file size of 471,498Kb.

Looking at the version online at Microsoft today, it claims to have the same version number, but is 481,052Kb in size.

I'd usually upgrade my pre-release/beta versions to the "real thing" on release day (i.e. today), but is this version really all that different... like do I really NEED to uninstall and then reinstall it?

I don't know what changes have been made since the RC Virtual PC/XP Mode, but if you want the RTM that is now available, you'll have to uninstall the older Virtual PC update from Programs and Features - View Installed Updates, and XP Mode from Programs and Features uninstall list. Indeed, I really wanted to know what the changes are so I can be a little more confident when it comes to actually doing the upgrade and not (for example) losing the VXD...

From what I understand, and what they've stated earlier on the site was if you're using the RC version of both XP Mode and Virtual PC, or beta, you're not supposed to, or can't upgrade from the RC to the RTM. you'd need to uninstall the older version of both to install the RTM. If that's what you're meaning.
And I 'd like to know what the changes were too, but I can't seem to find any info on it.

    Air,

I have bitten the bullet and uninstalled my old copy of VXP and put the "proper" version (RTM), on. The old virtual disk (I backed it all up first) did not open in the RTM version, no matter how much messing about I did with configuration files. I've just given up on it and put the RTM files back in place.

At least I have been using it for just one app, so it's not a huge "loss" (if you see what I mean?), perhaps a couple of hours overall what with all the messing about to get it all back and working again.

The installer also kind of better looking... The XP vxd is also more up to date than the RC one was (not surprised by that, but it's nice to see), and as a result, there were far fewer updates downloaded once I got it installed and connected to the update service. :)

Yeah - I'd really like to know what the differences are, if only to help explain why RTM is actually faster - perhaps now it is (almost) in the same ball park as VMWare Server for speed on my laptop! Still not quite as fast on first start up after a reboot of the host, but nowhere near as painfully slow as the RC version was.

I'm tempted to suggest that its time to wave bye-bye to VMWare for my old XP stuff... still need something for my Unix VM's, but that's another topic entirely.
