No network visablity within the XP Virtual Machine

Running Windows 7 RC 64-bit. Everything working fine within Windows XP Mode. All of the network and network devices are visible. All systems have same user account and password. Network is workgroup called WORKGROUP.

Per the instructions, I uninstalled the previous versions of Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode, downloaded and installed the new RC versions of these products. Everything installed fine, but within the XP virtual machine I do not have access to any of the other resources on the my network. Previously they were all visible. I went though the normal XP network set up, but the only thing that is visible within XP is the XP machine itself. My network is a simple non-domain network named WORKGROUP. What do I have to do within the Windows XP Mode virtual machine to see the printers and other systems on the network.

Hello dnr, and welcome to the forums.

Check to see if you have integration enabled or disabled. If it is disabled the network does not appear. Now if interrogation is disabled it will allow you to run your GUI in 32 bit mode vice the 16 bit mode you will have with integration enable. Also check your "Settings" and ensure that under "Networking" that you have "Shared Networking (NAT) selected.

In the "Settings" check your "Integration" to see if all the features for integration are enabled. You can choose what drives, printers, and USB plugins you want shown in Explorer (file manager).

    Hope this helps. :)

All these are set exactly as you have suggested. Two questions that might help me.
    1. Should I go though Network Setup in XP. When I do, the XP box itself shows up as part of the workgroup WORKGROUP, but nothing else. If I don't do Network Setup, the Network Places does not show up at all.
    2. Should I use the XPMUser and its credentials or should I use one that matches my other systems?

    Thanks,

I wasn't able to access my network until I set the adapter under settings to my actual hardware adapter.

Sorry for not getting back to you, but it has been a day of chaos. Have you tried "pbcopter" idea. If it works good; if not then try MS's help files. I will be away from the computer the next couple of days, so won't beable to work on this problem. Back packing through Idaho's Sawtooth Wilderness over the rest of the week.

Funny...I tried that, and it didn't work. Once I switched back to NAT though, it started working.
