XP Mode crashed to black window and won't enable intagration features

I've been using XP Mode for nearly a year without problems. Then last Thursday after finishing some work in XP Mode I tried to shut it down. After about 10 minutes it still had not shut down so I restarted Windows 7. When Window 7 was done coming back up I started Windows XP Mode. It said it could not enable integration features and it only came up to a black window with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. The window is not re-sizable.
I tried restoring Windows 7 to a earlier state but that had no effect.
I would like to restore XP Mode to the state it was in before it crashed, rather than reinstall it if possible because I have a lot of files and program settings that I would rather not lose. Thanks for any help you can provide.

If no body has an idea of how to solve this problem, does somebody have an idea of where else I could look for a solution? Thanks.

Hi Bob, welcome to the Seven Forums.

First, when you told you tried to shut down XP Mode, did you mean really shut down or hibernate? I mean, hibernate is default XP Mode closing action if you have not changed it. If your closing action was hibernate, then there's a trick that might work for you.

Virtual PC vm's create a hibernation file when hibernated. The file name is <Name_of_the_vm>.vsv (vsv = virtual saved state) and it is by default saved in C:\Users\Your_Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines

Check the above mentioned folder to see if you can find this hibernation file Windows XP Mode.vsv; it only exists if XP Mode is hibernated. If it exists, you can safely delete it. This causes XP Mode to boot instead of resume from hibernation when next time started.

Report back if this fails or if the .vsv file is not there.
