Sharing an Internet Connection with Windows Virtual PC XP Mode

    Hi there,

I recently installed a genuine version of Windows Virtual PC with XP Mode and updated to Service Pack 1 to use it.

I successfully managed to run Windows XP Mode. Now some of my softwares which might not run on Windows 7, are running smoothly on XP Mode.

The problem is now that I have only one internet connection and I work on the internet all the time I am on PC.

I have some software on both of them (Win 7 and Virtual XP) which I want to grant internet access.

Since I have only one connection, the only way is to share an internet connection between these two.

I know the method to share an internet connection between two computers but don't have any idea on how to share an internet connection between Windows 7 and Virtual Windows XP mode.

Please help me on your earliest. I'll be very thankful to you.

That's it folks. Thank you for your precious time. I'm waiting for your replies.

    Hello Muhammadian,

The tutorial below can help show you how to have XP Mode use your host's internet connection. :)

    Hope this helps,

Well, thank you very much for this thread.

The problem I am now facing is that in my adapters, when I open up the properties of my internet connection, I don't see any "Virtual PC Network Filter Driver".

Do you already have Windows Virtual PC installed?

Double check using the tutorial below to make sure that you have both Windows Virtual PC and XP Mode setup properly first. :)

Well, I have set up everything right according to the thread. Actually, I had followed the exact steps before looking through the thread you just referred me to.

When I open up the properties of Local Area Connection, I see "Virtual PC Network Filter Driver". But I don't see it in the properties of the connection I use to connect to the internet.

It is wireless connection I am using and can also be connected through the software supplied with it (Join Air). But I mostly connect to it using Network Connections.

I'm not sure if it may be possible to connect through a wireless connection like that. Is the wireless adapter listed in the Windows XP Mode settings under "Networking"? If not, then you might give "Shared Networking (NAT)" a try.

Well, thank you for your kind reply.

I gave it a thought that if I am able to connect to my wireless internet through Internet Connections without using software (Join Air), then I might be able to share it with Virtual XP Mode.

Secondly, I opened the properties of my wireless connection, and from the Advanced tab, I check the sharing check box. I also did the same for Local Area Connection.

Answering to your question, I don't see my wireless connection listed in Connections but I do see Shared Networking option.

I will give it a try. Thank you very much for your time.

    Thank you very much!

I selected "Shared Networking (NAT)" option in Windows Virtual PC settings. Then from my origninally installed Windows 7, I shared my internet connetion from Internet connections. That did the trick.

    Wireless in XP Mode

I have been using wireless in the XP Mode for a while. I lost the use of wireless connection about a week ago while travelling out of the country.

The Network adapter previously shown adapter 1 as a Realtek WiFi adapter. The setting change somehow from the WiFi adapter. I changed the setting back to Realtek WiFi without any luck. I read your posting tried the NAT setting. The WiFi works in the NAT setting.

This is on my notebook Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
