Hi Jinuvpillai, welcome to the Seven Forums. Below here a few things you could try.

    1. Remove hibernation data and force XP Mode to restart

If you have not changed the default settings of XP Mode, every time you close it XP Mode only hibernates but does not shut down. Sometimes when XP Mode can not wake up from hibernation you need to manually delete the hibernation file. When XP Mode is then launched it does not find hibernation data so it is forced to start from scratch.

The hibernation file is called Windows XP Mode.vsv. It is by default located on C:\Users\Your_Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines.

    2. Create a new virtual machine using your existing XP Mode virtual hard drive (vhd)
To do this, follow instructions in this tutorial: Windows Virtual PC - Create Virtual Machine.

Step 9 in this tutorial shows you how to use existing vhd on a new virtual machine. Your XP Mode vhd is called Windows XP Mode.vhd. It is by default located on C:\Users\Your_Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines.

    3. Extract the files you need from the XP Mode vhd using Windows disk Management
Follow instructions in this tutorial. In step 6, navigate to C:\Users\Your_Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines and select the file Windows XP Mode.vhd.

Please try these possible solutions and come back to tell how it went. Remember that AppData folder is a hidden system folder so you need to set Folder Options from Control Panel to show hidden files and folders to see it in your personal user folder.

Good to hear. Would be nice to know which of the three alternatives I gave you worked?
