Hi there
I am really interested in 2 things if you can try.

1) in XP mode can I use better screen resolution than was the case with the beta.

2) is the performance acceptable -- I "Tossed" it in the beta because it was just TOO SLOW even on a 4GB laptop with a decnt dual core processor.

These 2 problems are BIG showstopers IMO so I hope its improved considerably.

Cheers
jimbo.

Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Win7 N 32-bit, WHS

Hi,

I better try the RTM versions, then...

The VPC/XPM RC versions didn't cut it for me. Only today, the 'sandbox' O/S downloaded 29! patches - and did nothing to improve responsiveness for example.

Worse, I installed the pair on my dual-booted XP/Win7 64-bit Ultimate machine to test if it would run a critical app (smart card reeader and software) as well as my old Dvico Fusion PCI HDTV card and its software.

Several attempts later, the smart card software installs half-way and then hangs, and the Dvico software installs but aborts with "EP03 Device error" when I call up the program.

And I haven't even tried to install my old Canon scanner, which like the card reader shows up in the USB Attach/Release panel...

We'll see if the RTM versions make any difference.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Cheers,

LMH

Hi there
For things like scanners etc I'd choose a "classic" vm solution -- vmware server is FREE - and efficient -- run your XP machine as a separate vm.

XP mode IMO still needs serious work on it for productive use.

I'm running Agfa negative film scanner, old Cannon flat bed scanner, old HP plotter, Minidisc ATRAC cd ripper ==> MD (Yes I still prefer these over IPODS etc) on an XP vm. This hardware won't ever get even VISTA drivers in some case but works flawlessly in a VM with decent performance too.

Download vmware server -- its FREE and build your XP vm. You can even use vmware converter to convert a physical XP system (or other os) to a virtual one

Here's a screenshot.

Cheers

Thanks jimbo, I might just try that!

The newly downloaded RTM versions didn't even manage to get as far with the smart card reader as the RC ones LOLO

Perhaps under vmware I could even run my old Canopus ADVC 100 and its software?

Will report back. Meanwhile lycka til!

Cheers,

LMH

For those that dont want to go through vmware's registration process, you can download vmware server from softpedia.
