Windows Virtual PC has stopped working... but not really. Debug ideas

I run VPC on my laptop for legacy application reasons. It's run fine for months and months. Full device integration, it has actually been superb (surprisingly so). Anyway, about a month ago it started this weird thing when I tried to launch it: "Windows Virtual PC has stopped working" and it goes out to try and find a solution.

At this point, if I look at the task manager, I see vpc.exe running. If I then attempt to launch it again, it immediately comes up with the Xp window, ready for business.

Any suggestions as to how I can track down the issue?

Have you installed KB2830477 recently? I uninstalled it and that resolved the issue. See: KB2830477 causes problems in Wn7 x64 and XP Mode

I just went through the discussion of this, and like the original poster, it came in through automatic updates. I have to laugh sometimes at Microsoft answers. I know they have their hands full, but really, checking for software conflicts in safe mode? The #1 reason I have new software is from Windows Update.

So, I've uninstalled this update, and we'll see if things get better.

    Thanks for the pointer.

Well, after parking all of my work, and then rebooting, the VM no longer crashes. Looks like this was the issue. More time will yield more test results.
