Use vhd created from physical machine for Windows XP mode

Hi, I am currently upgrading one of my users to Windows 7 that needs access to her old xp machine. I created a vhd of her XP machine using "Disk to VHD".
I have tried creating a virtual machine and selecting the option to "Use existing disk".
When I attempt to run it it returns the error "Cannot start Windows XP Mode. One or more required files are either missing or not valid. Do you want to create a new Windows XP environment."

Can anyone help me with the best way to handle this?

I used all default settings other than creating a new disk, and was also able to load it as a secondary drive in another XP mode vm so I am sure I can get files onto it.

    Thank you!

EDIT: I created another virtual machine, it now loads and ran check but has a black screen. There are two OS versions being handed, one is disk to vhd WinXP the other Windows XP. The latter is the one that black screens.

    Hi there

It's been a while since I played around with this but it USED to work - how to create a fully functioning XP VM under VMware player (or workstation) from XP mode.

You can try it -- not sure if it still works but I can't see why not.

If you still have the PHYSICAL XP machine you can "Virtualize" it by using the vmware conversion tool (Free).
