Adding a Virtual PC to Win7

Wanting to install MS Virtual PC (Not XP version) onto my Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64 bit) I downloaded "Win 6.1 KB958559-x64-RefreshPkg"
The following were installed in an x86 folder Windows Virtual PC.
    Integration components (folder)
    Integration components.iso
    Precompact.iso

I can see the Virtual PC in All Programs but when I expand it the folder is empty!

I'd be grateful for advise so I can complete the installation.

    Thanks Helidel

The folder is naturally empty because you have not created any virtual machines yet. Installing the software to run virtual machines, in your case Microsoft Virtual PC is not enough; it's just the virtualization program to run virtual machines you create.

Each virtual machine you create needs an operating system to be installed exactly as any real physical computer. See the tutorial: Windows Virtual PC - Create Virtual Machine

    Virtual PC

Thanks, but after d/loading MS Virtual PC 2007 SP1 then selecting .exe I get the msg "not supported for this PC!

Is there a "reasonable - easy" way to complete installing a VPC on my machine?

That's old version of Virtual PC. For Windows 7 you should download the latest version, not the 2007 version. Download the latest Windows Virtual PC here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...s.aspx?id=3702

I'm not sure if Virtual PC is available for Home Premium. You may be better off trying a third party solution like Virtualbox although your PC does seem a bit underpowered for virtualisation.

Virtual PC can be installed on Win Home Premium, you have to have Win 7 Pro or Ult to be able to install the canned VM referred to as "XP Mode".

I agree that the system listed in your specs in rather under powered for virtualization. Your specs list 3GB of RAM. That RAM must be shared between the main computer (referred to as the Host) and the VM (referred to as the guest). If you assign 1GB of RAM to the guest, that will leave 2GB for the Host. That is workable (depending on what OS you install in the VM) but is marginal.

What is it that you plan to do with the VM once you have it created?

Thanks for correcting that. I wasn't sure if it was available.
